One Nation was the first painting I ever painted with my hands and fingers since kindergarten. With the country facing police brutality, racial discrimination, protests (which were also close to home), alongside my own personal and mental struggles, I hit a low in struggling to grasp where humanity had gone. And, that lack of grasp of humanity, with all the intense feelings involved behind my own problems and the world's, is what led to me to start painting with my fingers.Â
"It was an emotional reaction, to say the least. Fingers painted the reactions and words I couldn't speak."
To have a way to produce a voice, a strong one at that, echoed with me. I could directly feel, touch the words and emotions, and spread it all out into one giant expression.
This piece was made by painting with hands and fingers.
