"big black" was inspired by the translation of the Native Americans, in which this creature, or buffalo is. It stands as a testament to the Native people:

"big black"

a buffalo

roams from a vast, desolate wasteland;

wades into water,

and carries the last of the people 

it used to know.

it shoulders their burdens,

the moon, when it did rise to its full,

and each passing night,

that the past is no more.

-buffalo.
