Past Image is a nod to the past of my ancestry. It was made by an experimental process of dancing (clogging) and charcoal. Later, I went back to make the figure from the marks made by the charcoal and my feet.Â
"There is a lot to be said about this piece, from the way the marks were made with my feet, to the marks of history, to later on when more marks were made as I went back into it after dancing. For one, many tribes danced. I thought of this, and decided to do my own dancing that I actually participated in in high school. Secondly, I consider this piece sad because many Natives were forced to stop dancing specific dances of theirs', while also being silenced (as depicted by what looks like shoelace lines covering the general mouth area). Third, the rough aged look of the marks further emphasizes the story of history."
