Tatanka was painted by my hands and fingers using a different technique. I approached this piece, focused on texture and its appearance. The texture seen was created by a light layer of paint, and by tapping or sliding my fingers. Hence, the fur of the buffalo.
The title of the piece derives from the Lakota, and their word for "buffalo", which is "Tatanka".
This piece was created in the month of November of 2023, which was Native American Heritage Month. It is dedicated to the buffalo, and to the Native Americans who relied on them.
This piece was made by painting with hands and fingers.
