Tie was originally an outdoor installation and sort of a ceremonial passing. It is a passing of transition in time, considering whom passes before and after time in the service; much like the sun, and its rising and setting over the stretched strips (stripes) and posts (posts of Soldiers).
Then, in the gallery, the symbology still carried. The person "remained" the same, and the materials were roughly similar.
Bed sheet → Torn → Stripes → Flag
Posts → Post(s) of Soldier
Carried/Installation Elsewhere → Ceremonial Passing
While the onlook of the sun and barren field is absent, the barren feeling isn't; neither is the passage of time this piece has endured from start to finish.
This piece was made by painting with hands and fingers.
This work was part of my Bachelor of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibition: "Honour" * "Dishonour", where the exhibition focused on how to honor my nation's Veterans and Current Service Members. To learn more about the show, click on the link above, or click here.
